iPod Mac->PC

I'm a little annoyed - my iBook died (again) recently, so I thought I'd back up all my important stuff to my iPod and access it from my pc! Ho-ho! Apparantly, not so! I know for a FACT if you use your ipod on your pc, you can connect it straight to a mac but now i find you can't do it the other way round!!

Does anyone know how I can connect my iPod to my PC without reformatting? (i'm assuming that's what the message about 'Updating' means when I plug it in...?)

One way is to get Macdisk

Also there are several utilities that allow Windows access to Mac formatted iPods, go to http://www.ipodlounge.com/ or http://www.ipodding.com/ and there you will find what you need.
