Black line flashes across screen as iphone goes to sleep

I've noticed that when I put my iphone 3g to sleep just a second before it goes completely black there is a black line which flashes across the screen. It sort of looks like the line that sometimes you saw on one of those old black and white gameboys when you turned it on and off. Anyone else get this? Anyone know what is going on?

I can really only see it when its sunny. Its not that easy to see inside.

Also, I think sometimes when I hit the sleep button to wake the phone up there are sometimes a couple of similar black lines a split second before it wakes?

Any ideas?

I get that sometimes as well. I'm not worried about it.

ah... doesn't everyone get this? It also happens to some TVs.

Does it really bother you that much?
