I have a Conext CNB900 battery backup (made by APC) that seems to finally need a replacement battery and I'm wondering if its worth replacing the battery or looking for something newer? This is a hand-me-down from the Shuttle PC that the iMac replaced last January. It has a DB9 connector that I never used with the Shuttle, and I don't even know if they have mac-compatible shut-down software. But it's got three backed up surge outlets and three straight surge outlets which is convenient. I don't normally power down the iMac, just put it to sleep, but we have occasional power outages, maybe a half-dozen or so a year and I'd like to use this unit to prevent a quick shutdown. If we know the power is down, it's easy to get to the machine and power it down as I work out of my house these days.

As an aside, I have a Belkin unit that is used with my DLP TV because its not supposed to be good for the DLP bulb to power down without running the cool-down mode (about 2 minutes). That has worked out great.
