Dented Aluminum because of iPhone!

I fell asleep the other night, and never put my new aluminum in it's incase sleeve! My iPhone dropped over the bed, hitting the aluminum and putting a nice dent into the metal :mad: I'm very sad about this...any idea how to get that dent out? It didn't bend, just put a ding in it...

There probably isn't a way and you most likely will have to deal with it.

Who's dinged - the iphone or the ibook?

The dinger gets a mandatory time-out.

The dingee might be "fixable" with one of those small dent remover kits for cars. (basically superglue and a q-tip - pull the dent then remove the glue residue) But it will still be noticeable to some extent.

Someone once used a plunger, like people who lift dents out of cars do. Apparently it worked. Some sort of heavy duty suction is in order.

A plunger might be a little on the large side - and you also may get some poop particles on your :apple: . I'd suggest a suction cup. ;) :D

Take it to a local bodyshop.

Bodyshops use a very strong magnet which will harm the computer.

I know it really sucks and you want to punch a wall over it, but it looks like you may have to just deal with it. Try a plunger.

Finding dead pixels will now do you no good. Reason being is the dent will somehow be the root cause for every other issue. I've learned, mostly from Apple discussions and here that having any real dent in your laptop is like a get of the warranty free card for Apple. It may be store specific, but it seems each person to report an issue who has used their laptop like every laptop should be used (ie: dents/scratches) are faced with this issue.

Option 1: Body putty, 400 grit sandpaper, aluminum paint, sealer, polishing wheel.

It is, and it probably would have, had the OP placed it in the sleeve. It might also benefit you to read more carefully next time.

To the OP, sorry to hear that. At least it'll give your MB some character! And you'll always be able to identify it now... Definitely glad I got a Tucano Second Skin for mine now though.

for dents where the metal itself is not creased - ie a smooth dent - it should be possible to use something very cold like dry ice to bring it out.

Have a look on google for videos of it being done on cars. If the metal is warm to begin with and then you use something like dry ice the sudden cold causes the metal to contract and the dent should pop out.
