Wow, I didn't know about this one. It's really good.

Pros:
- landscape keyboard for SMS
- character count (also tells you how many messages your text will be split up into)
- supports inbox and outbox views in addition to threaded message view (like the stock sms app)
- can show . , ! ? in their own section of the screen while still in abc letter mode on the keyboard

Cons:
- requires a paid license unless you're happy with waiting 30 seconds and tapping through like 4 pop-ups just to send a text
- doesn't appear to support auto-correct (EDIT: auto-correct is an option in the app settings...it was disabled for some reason upon installation)

The thread title gave me false hopes. This belongs in the iPhone HACKS section since it's not something you can have without hacking the iPhone. Your thread made me think APPLE included Landscape SMS in a beta version of iPhone 2.2

Wait...what's the name of the app?

Under the screenshots it says "MySMS app via Cydia" so I'm guessing it's MySMS and it's on Cydia.

Nice MBA keyboard. I had it for awhile, but it seemed that the keys were a bit smaller, probably just my imagination, but I got rid of it

Good find with my sms. I saw it yesterday and have been playing around with it since.

another con that I would add to it:

very laggy at times, everytime I get a sms now, my sms opens (default) and takes forever to laod up.

Another thing, sometimes I can't reply to the message, in order for me to reply to it, I have to go back to view all messages, click on the new sms, and THEN reply to it.

don't know what's with that process, but landscape is definitley the way to go

i like how the app looks and love the idea. but its not worth jailbreaking, someone needs to make an app like they have for the mail ones where you can type your message and then it sends it to the sms app and you add the person you want to send it too. if they can do it with email why not sms's?

and how hard would it be for apple to allow the landscape keyboard in any application? its not that damn hard.

Agreed. Although it looks nice, to me its not worth jailbreaking my phone.

I installed through cydia and it was a pain. Very slow and they wanted me to pay. I enjoy the jailbroken apps and donate through paypal to the devs but I aint buying a license because I believe that Apple will give us landscape text in 2.2

I agree with the others it was crappy to put it here and not in the hacks section. At the very least put in the title for cydia.

There was already an app for landscape sms on cydia called iRealSMS.

The responses in this thread make me laugh and shake my head.

This guy is trying to share something that many people complain that they want!

If you don't want to jailbreak, fine. Take your little balls, and go play in Apple's sandbox, but there's no reason to get hostile.

Whenever you think you're ready to come play in the big boy sandbox, you're welcome to join us.

By the way, there is another app, besides MySMS, as of yesterday--iRealSMS 2.0. This one forwards too. ;)

I still don't understand why people are still hesitant about jailbreaking. It takes absolutely no time at all and is completely reversible. I mean really, what do you have to lose??

As far as these SMS apps go, I've tried all three and none of them are as smooth as Apple's native SMS app. I thought for a minute that I might stick with MySMS IF you weren't REQUIRED to make a donation (kind of oxymoronic if you ask me).

irealsms is bad, only bad because you can't even use it unless you buy the license. At least in mysms you can play around with it without a license.

Definitely not worth buying, I really think apple will it soon anyway, but until then I can live with the 30 second delays occasionally.

Another pro with mysms:

delete one sms at a time

yah i do find mysms/irealsms to be rather buggy and sometimes i can't even tell if a message has actually been sent. same with bitesms.

I didn't ming paying for irealSMS
It's really worth it IMO.

You can forward messages, search through messages, landscape either way you tilt the screen.

LOVE IT

I used iRealSMS for about 1 day and I gave it up because the whole app is clunky and not responsive enough compared to iPhone's own SMS. I picked simplicity over function because iRealSMS is just too slow for me. Also it doesn't work with intelliscreen, when you get a text and you swipe it on the lock screen to launch SMS it goes to iphones sms not iReal.

However, I keep iRealSMS around incase I need to forward or search for any archived texts.

It is a good program, just needs to be a little faster.

They haven't in the past 2 years, why would they now?
Apple will not do landscape sms because there's not enough screen real estate. Technically there is, but not enough for it to look pretty. Apple wants us to see our keyboard, what we're typing, and the fancy bubbles of the conversation. There's not enough room for all that stuff in landscape mode.
They haven't done it yet, what on Earth would make you think that they're going to do it in this next update...?

Hahaha! Finally someone wanted to share something he found that alot of people complkained about not having it and yet they still complain. Anyway to give my 2 cents... This app is not bad at all although the only draw backs are like one said here, you have to pay for the license unless you want to wait 30 secs to send an sms and the keyboards are a bit small.

I tried it and I deleted it a few days later.

Before I tried out this app I thought the same thing.....there won't be enough room for the keyboard and be able to see what you are typing. But I was wrong. There is more than enough room for apple to develop it. The only thing it doesn't incorporate are those fancy bubbles, but I would rather be without the bubbles then landscape sms

Yeah but you still have to pay to get the license...

You can still use it without paying. You just have to sit through the "please buy the license" notifications, which I find occurs about 1 in every 5 sms I send. Aside from that, everything works great.

I bought version one iRealSMS. The author promised free upgrades. Two months later, he wants me to pay the same amount for version 2.

I can't trust the author anymore. I can't support that business model.

I switched to biteSMS. It's free if you use your provider's SMS network. Landscape and forwarding built-in.

I've never used it without the license tbqh

and as far as the "free" upgrades, I don't know who told you that. On day one the price of the App like $4 dollars, and he noted that it wasn't the best polished app at the time. However there was a post stating that a Major update was going to rank up the price; however, current owners would get a discount....since there is the update feature that cost less...

Hey, bitesms is really good. I'm impressed. A lot better than irealsms and mysms. I liked mysms, just didn't like the constant "buy license" notifications.

One thing I don't like: When viewing all messages, it doesn't list names, instead it list the phone number. Maybe I don't have something enabled? And the pink icon, would like that changed......if only I knew how to SSH

EDIT: disregard the phone number and name comment. It seems like it only happens after I send a message. But shows the name after I close. I don't know.

What discount? He charged 5 euro for irealsms 1.0, is charging 10 euro for irealsms 2.0, and wants 5 euro for updates from 1.0 to 2.0, which is 10 euro total. I see no discount! All I see is that I paid for the privilege to be a beta tester.

irealsms 2.0 doesn't provide enough features to justify the price, in my opinion. other people can make up their own minds.

Yeah I don't really understand either. If my girlfriend who is not very tech saavy can do it on her own then I would think people would at least try it. It's easy to just restore it and get it back if you don't like it.
