It's funny, we hear all the time about the number of iPhone's sold and target goals (13 million and counting), but I have yet to hear about how many iPod Touch's have sold. It just gets clumped in to the iPod category.

Has anyone heard a number for Touch sales? Anyone want to venture a guess?

Sales are reported by product line; they're never broken down into detail to any outsiders beyond the "iPhone," "iPod," and "mac" categories. As great as some might think the iPod touch is, it's still just an iPod and will be grouped as such through the foreseeable future.

Agreed. Thus my curiosity of the number. Apple stated that the 2008 growth was due to the overwhelming popularity of the Touch. I'm sure that somewhere along the line someone has caught some percentage of iPod sales going to the Touch...

Loads.

We're currently about 8:5:1 (Nano:touch:classic).

The 2G touch is selling like crazy at the moment, doesn't hurt that we're the cheapest nation on earth to buy an iPod right now.

Pre-tax comparo:

16GB iPod touch A$380.90 = US$247.40

Whereas in the states they pay $299 before tax.

Even our regular GST-inclusive price is more than US$20 cheaper.

Is this just for a single shop? What's the grand total to put everything into perspective?

Single shop. No idea on grand total.

They're selling very well, much better than the 1G when everyone was waiting for the iPhone. Now that it's out and people have decided they either don't want a plan or can't afford the outright cost they're buying touches by the truckload.

We have a lot of international Uni students here making good use of the GST rebate - many of them are heading home now that Uni's done for the year so they can claim the GST back when they leave. Saves a lot of money. Same for laptops - they're selling exceptionally well too despite the apparent price hike.

Wow. So Apple reported about 54 Million iPods sold in the last year. Based on that ratio, we can expect that 19.3 million Touch's will sell over the next year if sales stay consistent.

Just out of curiosity... Is that an educated guess, an opinion, or based on numbers seen?
