I know, I know... cheesy. But I can't help myself :). My favorite is probably the Charlie Brown Christmas by Vince Guaraldi, but also really enjoy Diana Krall's christmas album.

We've got two local radio stations that switched over to all Christmas music at the start of November... but yeah it probably could have :)

Favorite Song: Carol of the Bells

As for artists, I really liked Diana Krall's album, country wise I like Martina McBride, pop artist was probably Jewel (more folk than pop) and possibly Jessica Simpson (I know  ). Old school I like Bing Crosby and Sinatra.

Shane MacGowan's and Kirsty MacColl's haunting Fairytale of New York, which captures the bittersweet experience of Christmas for some. One of the few classic Christmas songs which is not mawkish, sentimental, or twee, but rather, is bittersweet and true; it's one I can hear/listen to endlessly.

Cheers and good luck

Always been a huge fan of Silent Night (or the original German, Stille Nacht) and The Little Drummer Boy.

Other favorite songs include: Happy Xmas (War Is Over), Do They Know it's Christmas?, O Tannenbaum, and O Holy Night, .

Also, songs by Mannheim Steamroller and Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

...And Elvis' Blue Christmas makes we want to vomit. :)

"Fairytale of New York" is not only the best Christmas song, but possibly the best song, of all time.

Another Christmas favourite is "Just Like Christmas" by Low.

A special mention goes to "Christmas Wrapping" by The Waitresses for being one of the rare Christmas songs that doesn't turn me slightly psychotic after I've heard it for the fifteenth time whilst shopping in bleedin' November! ;)

Not sure about that. it's a great song but there are better Pogues songs...

Still stand by Fairytale in New York as my favourite Christmas song by a mile. Silent Night is also an enduring classic.

The Pogues really rock, some terrific stuff in their back catalogue. I actually saw Shane MacGowan in Dublin a few months ago, walking calmly (and soberly) along a street in the centre of the city, chatting animatedly to a friend, a lovely sight to see; it was the day of Ronnie Drew's funeral, and the cream of Irish musicians - MacGowan included - attended and played and sang some incredible songs.

Cheers and good luck

Does anyone remember those Alvin and the Chipmunks holiday music? haha I Know.

Well it might of been extremely annoying, but reminds me none the less of Christmas time when I was younger. I am 20 now so this was probably 15 years ago, I wish I could find that CD again for some laughs. Any one recall what it was?

For me it's a tie between Fairytale Of New York by The Pogues and The Christmas Song by The Raveonettes. I also really like In the Bleak Midwinter.

I make a playlist of Christmas songs and don't start listening to it until 1st December - less then a week to go :)

Fairytale seems to be getting lots of props on here. Took a listen and don't really get the hoopla. Don't mind the Pogues, but not my cup o tea for Christmast music. Any other popular non traditional tunes?

Trad xmas music (carols) is still pretty much either church or cheese. But there's probably plenty who want something with a xmas/winter mood that doesn't sit at these extremes. Found this the other day. http://www.jazzchristmas.co.uk. A bit retro, with a mellow jazzy vibe. Sonic sherry really, with a few ambient mince pies thrown in..

ll Stephen Colbert wanted to do was to beat Kanye West on iTunes. Their little feud began when Stephen’s holiday album called A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift Of All starting creeping up the line of top albums on iTunes.

That prompted the outspoken Kanye to twitter on his website: “Who the ****** is Stephen Colbert? Needless to say, that didn’t sit well with Colbert, who then wanted to make it his mission to beat Kanye on the top albums list.

He launched Operation: Humble Kanye, and he was successful! The Christmas album made it to the number 2 spot, dropping Kanye’s down to number 3 but it got reversed today, and Kanye is back on top, but Colbert had some fun with it last night while it lasted!
