iPod touch Background Notification Service?

Does anyone know what happened to the background notification service for apps like AIM, that was supposed to be released in September?
 
My guess is in their testing it isn't stable yet so they're are taking their time after the Mobile Me catastrophe. So i'm expecting it by MacWorld:apple:
