View Full Version : Weird thing you can make your iPod touch do...

Warning: this seems to do absolutely nothing and is pointless. The only reason I am posting it is because I live in a free country and I had some free time on my hands, glean from it what you will.
Video: http://pismodude.com/reboot.mov
In case you didn't catch/watch what I did in the video:
Step one: Go to a page of apps other than page one.
Step two: Hold your finger down on an app (don't let it 'get wiggly' before doing step three)
Step three: Push down on the home button.
You should get a rotating wheel (the loading symbol) in the middle of your screen (I do every time) if you did it right, followed by your iPod locking itself! Now I know, there seems to be absolutely no reason to do this, know how to do this, or even think about doing this, right? Well, there isn't :)
I know this is trivial and stupid, but nobody will force you to post. For those with the time to waste on the funny quirks of the iPod realm: do you know (or have a good guess) what this is all about?

Hmmm I can't seem to do this on my iPhone. What software version are you running?

iPod Touch 2nd Gen running 2.2- no Jailbreaking, no hacks, straight up Apple sanctioned hardware, software, and firmware.

interesting that it appears to be an iPod touch specific "feature" maybe this is what you get instead of streetview.... either way it's pretty neat.

Ya I got this too but I would much rather have Street View. This thing is just annoying if anything.

Come on Pismo, I know you can figure out what it's doing.
I have faith in you.:D
First I thought maybe it was a way to lock an app.
Is there a way to lock an app.?

I couldn't get it to work on my 1g touch but I did have something unusual happen instead. I pressed on Bugdom and when I then pressed the Home button, Bugdom jumped to the first screen and left its spot blank.
The first pic is where Bugdom should have been and the second is where it ended up.

Did you get the spinning wheel?
It does make sense, you touch an app and the home button and you send your app to your homescreen

Hah! Good catch. Street View would have been nice.
One other thing I've noticed with 2.1/2.2 is that you can freeze the ipod between home screens by a) using a finger from one hand to position the ipod between two home screens and then b) moving a palm over the screen.

i think it is just reloading the springboard similar to what winterboard does on a jailbroken iphone when you change a setting because when i tried to do it, i had a low battery within 20% and you know when you click it once and goes away and doesnt come back. Well everytime i do it the low battery message comes right back....just like on my jailbroken first gen iphone when i change a setting in winterboard when it reloads the springboard. Thats just my imput on that. ;)
