I guess it's good for the iPhone and Apple in general, a sort of validation of how popular the device is becoming. But I really hope that future apps for the iPhone remain generally free of ads. The Gap and Target apps are nothing but ads themselves anyway. And I can deal with free apps including a little advertising. But it would be depressing if apps modeled after Gap and Target began charging $.99 -- asking you to pay for their advertising -- and people actually went along with it.
