The next iPod killer is.... the iPod Mini. The article explains it... and may explain why I feel Apple is slowly moving away from the original iPod and is focusing ALL their energies in the iPod Mini.

No doubt as soon as the Minis get to about 20GB on storage, the regular iPod will be laid to rest. I'm starting to really hate the look and feel of the regular iPods now.

I don't think the Mini iPod is a big deal...

Same Features as iPod, Smaller and a ton less HD... oh yes, it has colors!

*gasp*

Ah well.

It's a big deal to the many who value what it offers. There's no need for that to be everyone, though. Both products have their place.

I don't think Apple is abandoning the full iPod's future at all, either. I hope it gets the clickwheel!

I look forward to the next generation of full iPod. Probably along the lines of the mini, but who knows. I'm waiting to buy until I see it. As of today... I prefer the Mini.

I think they are great. My daughter has one on order and I can't wait to borrow it from her. ;) :D

So continue using/buying the regular iPods. I've had several (G1 5Gig, G2 15Gig, G3 10Gig) and you know what, I liked them all but I never, never, used all the storage it provided and occasionally used it as a firewire hd to transfer files. The contacts, notes, etc., were mighty useful and I still use it today. I think two fifty for a 4 Gig that holds a thousand songs is more than plenty for me. And the brushed metal will go well with my
G5 3 Ghz and PowerBook G5 1.6 Ghz *crosses finders*. :)

The new iPod mini ain't. Tho there are the typical Mac Zealots here who would adamently defend iCrap, iPoo, or iSh** on these forums (and buy seconds) regardless of it's price or use, the majority of feedback is overwhelming, "cool looking... but too expensive and small." Indeed, it is, nuff said. As a friend of mine who is getting one (because she is rich) "it's impractical but cool!" That just about sums up the mini in it's current form to price ratio. The regular iPod isn't going anywhere any time soon... unless Apple does something stupid (which, with Apple's track record, isn't out of the question).

Sounds like the same skepticism that greeted the first iPods 2 million sales ago - half of which are now in the hands of people who probably dont even own a Mac. Maybe the latest mini format doesnt suit your needs, but a little bet, the mini will outsell the iPod by a street simply because there are more people who dont own in excess of 4GB music, than there are people who own about 15, 20 or 40GB of music.

Let me cover your concerns.
Price:
No matter what the price ratio is, some people still couldn't dream of ever owning 4 GB of music. What some people don't understand is that even though you can nearly triple your storage capacity for another $50, most don't even need the full 4 GB. Why waste that $50? For storage you don't need?
Use:
It has the same use of the iPod. It is cool looking, and to some people that is all that matters. Half of the people who own iPods have no idea what a GB or a MB is. And most of them don't even load all of their music into their computer. Also, I imagine a lot of people will have a iPod and an iPod mini, either for their kids or for themselves.

Is the overwhelming majority of people really thinking that? Just ask the millions of Americans who have a gig of music. Also, I challenge you to find a company that has not done something stupid.

Saying the iPod Mini is a flop is quite amusing since it's already a top-seller before it's even hit the shelves! :)

No need for jealousy, folks, go grab one! Or wait until Apple can drop the price without taking a loss--that time too is coming.

Ah, yes....the Mac intelligentsia shows once again what marketing geniuses they are.....

Hint, guys: just because a product isn't what YOU would buy doesn't mean it can't become a hit (see iMac, original iPod).
