Hi,
I bought a legit unlocked Iphone 3g from italy and it works fine with my Orange sim card. I want to upgrade the software from v2.0.2 to v2.2, can someone please tell me if the upgrade will lock the phone or will it remain unlocked?
Apple care didn't seem to know, but the Vodafone shop in Italy thought it would remain unlocked but she wasn't 100%.
The phone hasn't been jail broken or anything. Thanks

Thanks for your reply. Couple of more questions...should I use my Orange sim or the italian sim the phone came with? and upgrading to 2.2 will still keep it unlocked right?
Has anyone upgraded their factory unlocked phone and had any problem?
Cheers

Put your Orange sim card in. Update in iTunes. Et voila you've a legally unlocked iPhone on your own network of choice ;)

ok will give it a go today. In iTunes it says version 2.1 available to upgrade to, so I take it I got to upgrade to 2.1 then it will allow me to do 2.2?
Sorry for all the questions but Italys a long way to take it back if I screw up the phone!

Hope you don't mind me asking but when and how did you get your unlocked Iphone? Did you get it while in Italy or order it somewhere? Would like to get one myself!:D

I bought it whilst I was in Italy from a TIM shop on payg for €569. The vodafone shops out there were only selling phones on contract.
