I am trying to edit a small video project in Final Cut Pro. It was shot with a Sony handcam. When i plug the camera in to my MacBook thru its USB, the camera is not recognized by FCP. It does come up as a drive, and I can view the files there. The files do not play in quicktime either, I can only view them through VLC player.

What can I do to get FCP to recognize the files so I will be able to edit them? FCP does not recognize the camera, and will not import the files. Quicktime says 'the file is not a movie'.

I believe both programs have the most recent update.

Try the MPEG-2 plugin for QuickTime. $20 at Apple.com.

Try using MPEG Streamclip (http://www.squared5.com/) to convert the files in to DV-NTSC QuickTimes.
