Is an iHome says it is compatable with ipod touch 2g is it?

it was said in reference to the iHome device using firewire not USB.

No, the iPod has a dock connector. It also has a 3.5 mm female TR(R)S slot (only the second gen. ipod touch has the extra R (Ring), for its microphone input). The dock connector can perform many functions, one of the most important being charging. Older iPods can accept and charge from both 5v (USB) and 12v (firewire) power sources. The iPod Touch 2G lacks the converter chip for 12v charging, and all iPods/iPhones after it will too. Hence it cannot charge off of a 12v power source.

I have an iHome iH9 and it works great with my 2nd generation iPod Touch except for a little static noise it sometimes makes with connected.

so the reality is that the touch isn't effected by the issue of not being able to be recharged by firewire anyway.....this ihome recharges by 5v and so it's not really an issue?

If the iHome uses 5v for charging, it should work.

I have the iHome iH9 and it will charge the iPod Touch 2g and the Nano 4g.

I agree with tnsmart in that it has some static when the iPod is docked. Not too loud, but noticeable in a quiet bedroom with soft music.

One nice thing about it though is that the display will dim way down and even turn off. I have gone through so many clock-radios with displays that were too bright. You can't tell in a brightly lit store, but once I got them home they would light my bedroom up at night. This clock doesn't keep me awake.

Sounds like the iH9 will charge the Ipod Tough 2G. I know for a fact, though, that the iH8 will NOT. I have tried it. So now, after upgrading my iPod, I get to upgrade my iHome as well. Dangit. How lame.
