Peripheral Battery Drain

This question is regarding laptops that are plugged in, and are also charging peripheral accessories like iPods, GPS devices (i.e. Garmin Forerunner), etc.

While the laptop is plugged in, will the charging of such devices diminish the life of the laptop battery?

No, while your laptop is connected to AC power the battery will not be affected by charging peripherals. That power will be provided from the AC power supply.
