Replacing a file in use?

I backed up my HIToolbox.rsrc file (which contains custom system icons) before I did a clean install yesterday, but now I am unable to replace the standard one with my backed-up version. I get an error that the file is in use. Is there any way around this, besides going in and editing it all over again?

I dont know what would be using it. Reboot and do a ps -f at the terminal and see whats running. Kill the process if you need to. Or... just move the file some place else and then copy your backed up one in the right place. I dont know what kind of permissions you will need to do that so you might need to be root. But dont use root unless you need to. You dont want the new file to have permissions that are too strict if they dont need to be. It could cause you problems later on
