I am watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, and the Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends float comes up. They start singing some song about best friends, then BAM!
Out pops Rick Astley, and he starts singing. I was so scared.....
Did anyone else witness this? It was a little odd to say the least.

My old roommate was totally in love with the Macy's thanksgiving day parade. Scary times. He has every parade since I think maybe '92 on VHS and would force me to watch them.

Yeah the whole nation got rickrolled.
And he was a 'secret guest' and his appearance was made to look like it interrupted the song. Lol.

lol, I was watching that with my wife and her parents and my wife was like "Did we just get rickrolled?" and I said "I think we did" and her parents were totally confused so we had to explain it to them.

That might be the greatest thing since I got rick rolled on a jumbotron at a Robotics Competition.
I applaud whoever put that together!

I know irony when I see it ;)
However Mr Astley's hit was as fine an example of a 1980s popular tune as you are likely to hear...

An April 2008 poll by SurveyUSA estimated that at least 18 million American adults have been Rickrolled.
Lol :D, I wonder how this has affected the total number of people.

I did find this quite funny. Although, Youtube won the originality award for its April Fools rick roll. As for the song, I love it, but it sucks that this performance was lip-synched, rather than actually performed.

Post that on 4chan repeatedly for a couple of days, after a while someone will run with it, then more people will run with it, then it spreads, and then boom, every other link is a jonesroll...

One of the worst places on the internet, it's unfiltered, unrestricted, anonymous image posting website.
It's also where 99.9% of internet memes were born, including rickrolling, which was a variation of duckrolling, where someone would quote a post, but by clicking that quote link, it would link to another thread, which would be a duckroll thread.
I wouldn't suggest going on there tbh...

OK, I must be the most out-of-touch person in the country. I have no idea who Rick Astley is, or what the big deal around being "rickroll'd" is. Anyone care to give a little background?

I saw that yesterday...thought it was awesome! Only in America could someone like that have a career resurgence based on what is essentially people mocking something you did!

Heh. I was watching the parade with my son. Fosters Home is one of his favorite cartoons so we were actually paying attention to the TV when Rick came out. Fecking brilliant. As the float started moving again, one of the characters even mentioned that you got rickrolled.:D

34 from Atlanta, Georgia. Also asked my 27-year-old wife, and she kind of knew the name, but nothing else. So yeah, no clue how the big rollroll'd thing got going. Must be sort of a college thing?
