how to make a p2p network

Right now my ibook is connected thru AE to a wireless router, and my roomie's windows machine is connectd to the same using his wirelesscard.
My question is how do I connect directly to his comp using AE..?so that we can change files even when not at home..like outside in the park..?

well i already have the network in place..but its through the router..what i am asking is how to do an adhoc/p2p networking directly with the windows laptop??
when I switch off my router, and try to use smb..it can no longer find the windows machine..because we were networked thru the base station/router.
Now in my friend's laptop there is an option to turn on adhoc network directly to other comp. So I am asking how can I do that in my mac..
I really appreciate your help

go to the airport menu thing in the menu bar
there should be a "create network" thing.
