.ogg to .mp3 ?

How can I convert .ogg files to .mp3s ?
It seems that the only app. i have, that can play .oggs is the vlc player...

Is there an .ogg ---> .mp3 (heck I will take any format my iPod can handle)


Please, this is the question I want answered.

that is nice and handy for opening those files on my Mac, what I want to do it get those files on my iPod and since no one has hacked the iPod for .ogg files yet, I want a way to convert them.

well he only wanted to convert because vlc was teh only app that worked,

this solution provided itunes as an app to play, thus no need for the conversion. as you can see he was happy with that

Yes, indeed he was happy...

I'll restate.

As par his original question...

Is there a way to convert .ogg ---> .mp3

This is what I'm looking for...

Or as I also said
.ogg ---> any file and iPod can use.


iTunes will play the OGG files with the codec (Its great, I use it all the time! I love it.) But its not useful for my iPod since it can't be playied and is not transfered to the iPod.

I have Quicktime Pro and don't see this option.

The only thing I see is Export... and Export doesn't export to MP3 (I don't see it there atleast)

What is Ogg Vorbis?

Ogg Vorbis is a new audio compression format. It is roughly comparable to other formats used to store and play digital music, such as MP3, VQF, AAC, and other digital audio formats. It is different from these other formats because it is completely free, open, and unpatented.


What do all the names mean?


Ogg

Ogg is the name of Xiph.org's container format for audio, video, and metadata.


Vorbis


Vorbis is the name of a specific audio compression scheme that's designed to be contained in Ogg. Note that other formats are capable of being embedded in Ogg such as FLAC and Speex.

Ogg is comparable to AAC in that it has a high quality with a smaller space then say an MP3.

Test it out yourself... Just be warned if you have an iPod like I do... .ogg files are not yet supported.

I also wanted to convert from ogg to mp3. But it was just one album so it was ok for me to convert first to .wav with Quicktime and then in iTunes to mp3...

A shortcut would be nice.

Ah okay...

One would think there would be an easier way. :o

Get the plugin that lets you play .ogg files in iTunes. Then, in iTunes, right click on the file and "Convert Selection to AAC." Those will play on the iPod.
