iPod touch 32g lock up

Hi there,
New to this forum but I hope that someone would have some helpful advice for me. I have a 32g Itouch that I got when they first came out around Valentines this year....I hadn't any previous problems with it. Last night while using it it froze no keys worked. I simultaneously hit the home key and the power key....then I ended up with a white screen. IT is now a dull grey but I am unable to do anything. Has anyone had this happen? Were you able to fix it?

yes I held the keys for what seemed like forever....no screen shot...this was a dull non responsive machine 🙁
I plugged it in and my comp told me there was an upgrade...I crossed my fingers and tried it and miraculously it worked. 🙂
