Whenever I go to put my Macbook to sleep, either by closing the lid or manually pressing the sleep button, the HDD or optical drive makes a double-click noise and the screen either turns back on (if the book is open) or flashes and turns back off if the book is closed. Additionally, if the book is closed, this continues into infinity. Whenever the sleep indicator light fades all the way out, the clicks occur and the Macbook wakes up.

Should I be worried? Is this a potential problem for the display and/or any other components? Would it warrant a return?

Thanks in advance for your help!

First take a look at system.log in the Console. Remember the last entry.

Now take a look at the Activity Monitor, and choose "Active Processes" in the "Show" option. Jot down all the processes and list them here later.

Now replicate your sleep disorder. Once your mac wakes up again, copy and paste all the entries from system.log after the last one you noted earlier, and post back here.

Only then can anyone give you any idea.

BTW, the clicking noise is the sound made by the hard drive when it tries to park/unpark its head. Each click corresponds to one action among these two.

Here's the system.log.

The processes list wasn't still enough for me to jot them down accurately, as new processes were being added and removed.
