Apple Script question

I have no experience writing Apple Scripts. That said, I'm looking for a script that I can put as a startup item that will automatically either ftp or email log files from my iBook to my Desktop everytime I turn it on. That catch being I wanted to it to check for a network connection, so that it choke when there isn't one? ( if that is a concern for apple scripts )

Any suggestions? :confused:
