As the credit crunch bites, Britons may be turning to sex as a cheap way to pass the time, a charity says.
A YouGov survey of 2,000 adults found sex was the most popular free activity, ahead of window shopping and gossiping.
The Scots were most amorous with 43% choosing sex over other pastimes, compared with 35% in South England. BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7755315.stm).
I concur, I had a nice cheap weekend too.

If sex was ever below "window shopping and gossiping", I would be entirely horrified. :p
FTW indeed!

I save $ with MR - if I had sex as an option - well, I wouldn't be a member here. ;)
I kid, I'd still be here. :p

Sex isn't entirely free. Unless you go toy/protection-less :p.

All forms of contraception are free on the NHS, so in Britain it is. :D

Sex isn't entirely free. Unless you go...protection-less :p.
Chances are it won't be anything close to free if you go that route. It just might take a few months for the expenses to start rolling in.

No, no.
You heat the room and throw off the covers.
Sheets and duvets just "get in the way".

In a related story, Brits on top in casual sex league as survey reveals we are the most promiscuous in the world (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1090612/Brits-casual-sex-league.html?ITO=1490).
They found that when it comes to one-night stands, numbers of partners and attitudes to casual sex, Britain leads the field, ahead of even liberal nations such as the Netherlands and the passionate Italians.

Spotted that in the papers this morning. Probably a little prudish of me but I don't think that's something to boast about. :o

So the country that brought us this tune Eurythmics-Sex Crime (1984) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zT1H9gafkfE)
Now has this reputation. And what a reputation it is :D
From Daily Mail
It is far from an achievement to be proud of - research suggests that British men and women are the most promiscuous in the Western world.
It appears the days when we took a strict moralistic approach towards sex are long gone.
Researchers blamed the situation on a decline of religious scruples, the growth of equal rights for women and a highly sexualised [sexualized] popular culture.
What's up with these researchers anyway? What's wrong with being proud of sexual liberties?

I would be inclined to say nothing but for STIs. These are a big deal. Of course condoms stop the worst ones, like HIV, at least usually, but there are other viruses which can be more casually transmitted. As a general rule, less partners => less death.

You can save a lot more with solo sex. In fact, the only cost is perhaps Internet connection.

Or at least, itchy nether regions.
Obviously the original survey must be for couples in a steady relationship. There have been frequent instances in which the then-other-half has thrown a strop and I end up thinking "You know, it would be cheaper to pay for sex".

As well as unwanted pregnancies. Condoms aren't 100% (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_birth_control_methods), even in the best situations (lulz) it still only works 98 out of 100 times. In that 2% you're potentially exposing yourself to any nasty virus or disease going.

I believe this is accounted for by the "OMG, what was I thinking" syndrome.
As Rod Stewart said: "Just don't be here in the morning when I wake up."
