I was just browsing amazon when I stumbled across this;

http://www.amazon.com/U6V-V1-Bamboo-12-1-Inch-Processor-Graphics-Business/dp/B001J6N7Z4/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1228143638&sr=8-1

Obviously it's not done right; the silver clashes, it looks cheap, and it's a pc. But if mac took this idea, and made a unibody wood framed laptop, with wood keys and a matching colored glass trackpad, it'd look super awesome. Plus it'd look really "indie", appeal to college kids, and if they did it right it could be really eco-friendly. Anyone agree with me? All feedback is appreciated of course.

How is cutting down trees to make a case for something that could spontaneously combust eco-friendly?!

If they used dead trees, driftwood etc. and made it super biodegradable.. And I'm not a computer designer but I'm sure modern technology would find a way to conserve the heat, and make it not spontaneously combust =D. I'm not saying it's a perfect idea, I just think it'd be cool if they did it right...

Just to clarify. I didn't make the thread trying to say apple should do what the laptop in the post did. I'm sure the pc I cited used a sticker, it's a really cheap and ugly looking computer. I don't deny that. All I'm saying is the idea behind it is cool, even if it's executed horribly, and that it would be cool if apple playing with that idea.

"oh hey check out my blazing unibody wood macbook...oh **** it's on fire now."

:D

FAIL.

It's printed "fiber patterns". Not real wood.

i.e. Palm rest is "leather bound palm rest", but has wood "patterns" on it. Strange...

NO, that would not be cool at all cuz i would have to switch back to pc if they ever released it. or keep my old macbook until apple gets out of their ugly phase.

Yes! This would be great, even real wood would be cool. They could use insulation in between the layers of wood and the gizmos inside. I've browsed the internet a bit for a wood MacBook design, and the closest, and best result I've got is here:

http://designrehab.blogspot.com/2008/08/i-got-wood.html

Have a look. It's not wood, but I'd absolutely love to have one!:D:D

You're thinking of the first Apple Computer (http://alysonstrother.files.wordpress.com/2007/03/apple.jpg) (before Mac)

You know what this means. Cracked wooden cases will give you splinters.

The product description states: "The stylish and reliable machine is made with highly recyclable materials Bamboo."
I would have to assume it's bamboo laminate.

First thing I thought too!! :)

It is sooo close to looking cool, they just need to replace the silver elements with something that doesn't clash so much. Maybe white?

Definitely is a conversation starter, though.

Did I see that right, $2400 for the wooden keyboard? That's crazy! Then again their wooden speakers cost $3100, which is even more nuts cause I think you can get home theater speakers out out of wood for around that much.

$2400 and $3100 for a keyboard and speakers. My goodness. If I had that much money to burn I'd be getting so much more than that!!

Bamboo is considered a "green" product because it's fast growing and it re-grows when cut. Think of it as grass on steroids. It's also surprisingly one of the hardest of woods even more so than oak.

If you did it right it would be super cool! And sturdy:D

Using wood that can be reused, maybe to make more cases, backs up Apple in their eco friendly system :D
