iPhone developer TapTapTap put together (http://www.taptaptap.com/blog/10000/) this photo mosaic to mark the 10,000 app milestone in the App Store.
A higher quality and full size mosaic is available on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tap-tap-tap/3074199062/).

Wow, someone has too much time on their hands! Mind you, with technology these days it may not have been that time consuming. ;) Nonetheless, quite impressive!

I love the full-sized one. I've never even seen 95% of these icons before.

probably done similarly to the way xUKHCx's MR avatar mosaic was made, but still awesome.

I was thinking the same thing :D
If someone wants to do something similar I can recommed MacOSaiX (http://homepage.mac.com/knarf/MacOSaiX/) or MozoDoJo (http://ktd.club.fr/programmation/mozodojo_en.php).
They are quite fun and relatively easy to make.

Nice idea. It is pretty cool to look at all the different icons in the full size picture.

Now I want to see a flash version where clicking on the icons enlarges them and provides info on it and a link to the store.

You really don't need Flash to do that.

True, just working in flash at the moment so it came out as I typed.

Neat, but they should of used the original iPhone icons and not ones from the app store that are unrecognizable.

Am the only one who sees Apple using something like this in a TV ad?

Has Apple ever advertised the App Store specifically though? I can only recall brief mention of it in a couple iPhone commercials. Regardless, it would be reminicient of the iTMS ads from a few years back.

They are missing quite a few apps (4 that I wrote)...and use the same ones over and over.
Can anyone else find: iCanSketchIt, Triple Card Poker, Beer Finder, or Hi Lo?

I don't see mine either, and I see a lot of duplicates.

Wonder where they got access to all the icons. Hate to think of someone manual copying these from a site or something.
And, I second that they should have used the original icons.

I see a few I recognize.

AppShopper.com supplied the icons.

The big problems must have been the fact that you just couldn't do it if you included each and every app exactly once.
There might not be enough black-background apps for the phone; too many red apps to realistically do a red icon, etc, etc. They'd have to fudge the 'source' picture quite a bit, I imagine, to get one that works with the exact 10k icons. (The background likely wouldn't be white, it would be a funny mish-mash; since I doubt there are *THAT* many mostly-white icons.
