How old is your machine? Here's a long-standing thread about the issue. (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=495259)
I am an Apple Certified Macintosh Technician, which allowed me to take apart my unit and I can confirm there is no way to "tighten" the hinges, the entire top assembly (one piece by warranty standards) needs replaced.

All I know is that there are a lot of people extremely annoyed about it. Have you been in touch with Apple about it or been to an Apple Store?

"Broke" college student with a macbook air? Give me a break...
*ahem* In any case, contacting Apple wouldn't hurt.
