Ive noticed that my mbp gets pretty hot while playing cod4 on it. I just recently downloaded smcfancontrol2 and was wondering if it would be better turn the fans up to say 5000rpm before starting the game or if i should just let apple take care of turning up the fans for me.

Also would it be bad to play cod4 with the fans going 5000rpm for a couple hours?

I'm confused. You acquired SMC to control fan speed. So control it. Get iStat Pro (Free) to easily monitor all internal temps and adjust individual fan speeds accordingly.

Right i got smcfancontrol to control the fans. I guess i am mainly wondering if running the fans at high rpms constantly for a couple of hours while playing would be bad for the fans in the long run. The default fan speed is 2000rpm and it usually takes quite a bit of heat for it to automatically raise the fan speed which it only does so for a couple of minutes and then kicks them back down to what im assuming is probably 2000rpm again. I want to run them at a constant 5000rpm (1200 lower than the max 6200rpm) to try and maintain a cooler temp.

Seeing as I'm constantly running my fans at 6000 RPM while running AoE3 on my Macbook, I doubt you'll have a problem with your MBP. If it DOES have a problem you could use the warranty, but those fans are designed to take whatever is thrown at them.

You might also want to try Coolbook (http://www.coolbook.se/CoolBook.html), BTW. Undervolting works like a dream. My MB temps dropped an average of 15 degrees (F) during an AoE3 session (AoE3 is intensive for my GMA950 Macbook). And of course it has absolutely no adverse effects
