Ejecting Ipod

I am charging my ipod on my imac and i ejected the ipod off so the screen will shut off while it charges. I've seen some things that i want to transfer to the ipod but it wont let me access it. Do i have to disconnect the usb cable then reattach it? Or is there an easier way?

It's a 5th generation ipod connected to an Imac intel core duo running leopard.

Try launching Disk Utility and see if your iPod is listed as an available drive. If it is, select it then click the 'mount' button. See if that works.
