So, corrupted hard drive on Friday after droppping 1k on a brand new LED monitor. Reinstalled OS clean install, lost data, thought Id try and install Vista 32 as I thought the late 2008 MBP was compatible. No luck, spent 12 hours on a sunday screwing around with it. Gave up.

So, tonight after work spent two hours installing XP finally installed al updates and SP3.Tried to install MS office which i installed previoulsy without ANY hitch and now

MY GODDAMN CD/DVD WILL NOT READ the CD.

THIS IS BEYOND A JOKE.

I have spen 4k in total on an UNRELIABLE piece of junk. I am now going to sleep knowing I have wasted the best part of this evening and the week end with no luck and I still have 4 other engineering programs I need to install. I guess my idea of being able to work from home on my new lED monitor is gone to crap.

PRO? MY ass. This is totally unreliable. I dont care if its not an apple component thats too blame. Apple chose the components and charged a premium for it as it is supposed to be a PRO computer. Im tkaing this heap of crap back to the store tomorrow - if i can fit it in what with the dead line I have this week which is even worse after having to waste the best part of a week end and this evenig trying to repair the piece of crap.

I'll be happy to buy that LED monitor off you, to recover some of your money lost :D
But seriously maybe you should not of got a Mac, I mean it seems all this software you're installing is on windows and not OSX so whats the point in that?

Your a joke. Spending all that time whining. What went wrong? Did the SuperDrive just spin/make noise and nothing shows up or ... ? How is it unreliable? Did the OS crash, or have glitches you find unavoidable? Saying you can't install stuff doesn't make it a heap of crap... But please, describe in a less angry, more detailed way...

Ignore the guy above. EDIT: ignore Azagar's post. I didn't see jonbravo77's post when I sent this.

Maybe because all you cool dudes saying how great a mac was made me take the plunge. After all, how worse can it be after using a windows computer?

Ans:

A LOT WORSE

Also you are correct, I do mostly use windows s/w being an engineer, AS THE PRODUCT WAS ADVERTISED AS BEING WINDOWS COMPLIANT I THOUGHT THAT WAS THE CASE OR IS IT USUAL TO NOW FALSELY ADVERTISE THE SPECIFICATIONS OF YOUR PRODUCT? Maybe its just the REV 0 peculiars of teh new MBP. My advise stay well away for another year.

You cant have it both ways, its either windows compliant or not, and windows users shouldnt be be given false information to swicth, especially after shelling out for a new display that is only compatible for a mac. How much you willing to pay for it by the way?

And you think Bill Gates has a case to answer for? Thank god apple arent the ones in charge of the most popular OS, based on my expereince, how much worse it can be? A LOT WORSE.

And to think my engineering company was about to go out and purchase a stack of mac pros, guess what I'll be recommending?

Whats to say the next one wont screw up. My room mate has the last mac book pro and cannot belive how much trouble ive had with it. I have never had so much crap before with a computer.

If its a pro piece of equipment I dont have a week end to tinker around with a mac. After all, "doesnt a mac just work?" I could have spent 1/3 less money and bought a windows computer to tinker around with at week ends, but i dint wnat that, hence the mac book "pro". Now I have to find time during my work day to go to the store to take it back and probably wait a week for a ne wone.

Is this acceptable for a pro piece of equipment?

Wasn't being entirely serious with my original post, like past user have said you got unlucky with a bad book and you're best bet is to just get a new one form apple, forget trying to fix anything anymore.

Don't be mean to people who had absolutely nothing to do with your machine failing. The Apple employee had nothing to do with it. Just be calm and let him help you. It isn't like your 4k goes down the drain. You will get a working machine.

Also I would argue that most of the threads here are about complaints. Have you not been reading the boards since the unibodies came out? Complaint after complaint is far from a "happy crowd."

Also remember that all the happy users normally have no reason to posts. Yet the unfortunate users post their problems.

Just relax :o

Go check it, it's less than Dell, HP, etc, Apple also has the highest customer satisfaction rate in the industry, and recently set a all time new industry record...

Your case is incredibly isolated, but you seem to have the mentality that everyone must be having these issues and apple owes you royalties...

If you keep making these new threads constantly whining on all the "issues" you're having, and constantly reminding everyone how much you paid, eventually you'll just be labelled the new gregdrumerez (not a good title) and either be ignored, or constantly mocked, it's one thing to ask for advice, but it's another just to constantly rant and troll...

1) You're the idjut who spent $1,000 on the Apple monitor. I still don't get why people pay double the price on those for a few added nifty features and maybe a bit better quality.

2) You're seriously going to complain to a bunch of Mac fanboys about the problems you're having with Vista? Really? Just because a computer says it will run Vista doesn't mean the steaming pile of poo that is Vista will comply. My stove is "burn my hand compliant," but I'm not gonna try it out.

3) Why are you buying a Mac to run what seems to be nothing but Windows software? Apple doesn't spend their R&D dollars on making sure everything works perfectly with Vista (neither does Microsoft apparently). They spend it on OS X. Duh.

4) What good does complaining to us do? The sloppy spelling and horrible grammar just make you look like a middle schooler who is unhappy that daddy's present didn't work just like he thought it would. Dead line? Week end? MacCrap us a river.

I gave it teh beneift of the doubt when i first installed some of my engineering porgrams, but this time ive tried it for nealry an hour and am jsut sick of teh whole thing. Like I said. I spent the whole week end tinkering with it and this is the final straw really. Whats to say Im going to spend another hoir for each of the otehr s/w cd's I want to install? Whats to say it wont break on me when im in an urgent meetign and want to rip some data to the MBP?

The point is, its a PRO component, with a premium, and yes things faill, but you have to draw theline somehere and this is that line.

We don't need more whiners. Return it and move on with your "I've been in the IT industry for 20 years" life. I'm just 15 and I could have handled the situation like 100 times better than you can/did. I also know about 100 times more as well, from just reading your whining posts. Some "pro" you are. Honestly, chill and just get a Dell if you really want it.

Your "2c" is worthless to me. I bet all of that didn't even happen. If it did, you would actually tell us more about what happened and less about how much you paid for it and that it's not a "pro" computer. If you honestly, really actually "tried" to tinker around for a whole entire week, you would have fixed it, with 20 years worth of IT industry experience.

Apples are not immune to the occasional problem, I have had a lemon too. I still very much prefer the functionality* of the operating system and the look of apple stuff over the alternatives out there.

So yeah, take it back, but I hope you, Mr tslewis, can speak calmly to the apple peeps, results are usually better when you're not raving on like a spaz.

You aren't paying for a "pro machine" that has all it's components made from pure gold which have been blessed by God himself.

Anyway, just to keep your macdom going, before it broke yes I did like it, but unfortunatley my confidence and heart is now broken, as well as my wallet :(

All you have to do is calmmmmmmmmmmmm downnnnnnnnnnn

You paid Apple, you still have a 1 year warranty. So just let them fix it.

FFS, sh** happens. Take it back but don't be a dick about it. Yeah, it sucks, you got a dud but IT HAPPENS. It is very frustrating. Yes, you should expect better from a Pro but IT HAPPENS. Sort it out and quit freaking out about it.

He forced the OP to buy the brand-spanking-new monitor. It's not like it's a secret that the thing only has DisplayPort. That's why most of us will use monitors from other companies. You think someone spending $4,000 would do the mildest bit of research. :D

Well before I bought it my MBP hadnt "broke". Ironically, as soon as I plugged it in I got a corrupted hard disk, I kid you not, you couldnt make it up teh problems Ive had with this thing.

And I am honestly not a troll, but I really must sleep now.

Sorry if I offended anyone, still annoyed, but Im glad I got it out :o

So, you went out knowing you had a deadline. Bought a brand new computer that you obviously have no experience on, still knowing you had a deadline, and it happens to not do what you need, knowing you have a deadline. And now it's Apple's fault. So if you get fired for not making your deadline you going to sue Apple?

No it was working fine until it hit the 30 day mark.

And yes, I know how a computer works, I actually have a PhD...... Yes, it is true believe it or not. :o

20+ years in IT and you've never had a single component fail? Ever?

You've never had to replace the optical drive in a system? Ever?

You've never had to RMA something? Ever?

You've never had driver incompatibility issues? Ever? On VISTA of all platforms??

Where do you work? I'd love to send my resume to Wonderland! Sounds like you have it easy. BRB, have to swap out a failed disk in a new 200+ pound Sun X4500. Not that you'd know what that's like, since nothing has ever failed for you, ever.

What I find funny is you would complain about the updates. At least Apple tells you there is an update. Do you realize that Windows does a lot of it's updates without you even noticing. And, before you say the obvious. There was a report last year saying even if you turn Automatic Updates off, when Windows connects to the internet it will download certain updates?

God, at least Apple tries to fix problems in a timely manner..

Exactly. Why complain about installing Windows apps on a Mac? This is why I still have my Windows PC for the workhorse programs that I need for my business. Macs are pretty machines but they are not workhorses like the PC. You push a Mac it pushes back. :D
