VLC, 10.3 and SVCD

I have a SVCD copy of T3:Rise of the Machines that I made from an original (I purchased it... no shady stuff here) DVD on my windows machine with DVD2SVCD. It will play with VLC perfectly up until the last 20 to 25 minutes of each disc (2 disc SVCD) when it startes to break up and the video gets distorted. It plays fine on my windows machine and my stand-alone DVD players. Could the encoding on the windows machine cause this on my Mac? Might it be my VLC app? Anybody else run into this?

do you get the same results in MPlayer (http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net/) ?

I realise thats not really the answer to your question but I find that between these two apps they'll play anything I throw at them.

Hmmm.... I didn't know about MPlayer. I'm still new to this Mac thing. :-) I'll give that a try and see what happens. Thanks for the reply.

I seem to remember DVD2SVCD doing strange things sometimes. When I started authoring the discs myself, all the compatibility problems disappeared.

However, I have something for you to try. Put the disc in a Windows computer and copy the video file (usually \MPEG2\AVSEQ01.MPG) to the hard drive. Then copy it onto your Mac and see whether it plays properly in VLC.

I'll have to try that since MPlayer doesn't seem to like my SVCD's... On to my next project... putting my Mac into my Windows network so I can do machine to machine file swaps.

BTW crap freakboy, I don't know if I did something wrong, but I couldn't get my SVCD to play. I tried to open it manually and I also tried to drag and drop.

I've never been able to play SVCDs in MPlayer either. But VLC seems to work for my properly-authored CDs.

I really like how vlc handles lots of things, what's mplayer good for I haven't really used it yet?

It has a slightly different interface, has a playlist feature, and in technical terms runs a little differently, but really they're very close in terms of functionality.

I keep Mplayer around for the rare problem file that VLC doesn't like, which is why it'd be a good idea to try your VCD with it, but honestly I haven't had need for it in months, since VLC handles anything Quicktime doesn't.
