It's a Christmas Tree Ornament (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/reliable-source/2008/12/rs-ornament2.html)

When Deborah Lawrence got the invitation from the White House, the Seattle-based artist decided to make a lefty political statement.

But she never expected it would hang on the official Christmas tree.

Laura Bush asked members of Congress to pick local painters to decorate ornaments for this year's 20-foot Fraser fir in the Blue Room. The globes (to be unveiled by the first lady tomorrow) are supposed to showcase something special about each congressional district. Washington state's Rep. Jim McDermott contacted a local arts organization, which asked Lawrence, a collage artist, to create the local entry.

As much as I dislike Laura Bush, I have to agree that it probably shouldn't be hung. I mean, it's a Christmas tree. Why would you put a call for impeachment on a Christmas tree? Christmas isn't a political event. The is disrespectful to the tradition. It's like the deference you give to a sitting president, even if you hate him. You still call him Mr. President. Likewise, it doesn't matter if you want to make a political statement. The White House Christmas Tree is not the place to make it.

Don't panic

she should have embedded a webcam in the ornament and broadcast the show live on the web

If it was accepted and not rejected then we would not have a news story like this. How brilliant is that :D

Free advertising for the artist, no matter which way the ornament swings.

Christmas isn't a political event.

Wait I thought the White House was a Church - not a civil building... oh wait... its not.

I think its disrespectful - but in all honesty I dont have a problem with it. You cant ask an artist to make what ever they want and then complain you dont like the message behind it.

For some reason mankind just loves tradition of any sort, then they pass it down to the kids who do the same who then do the same and then the next generations think its religion.

On a side note this president should have been impeached and kicked out of office along with congress. Our system is broke, corrupt, bought off, ineffective and is in place to represent lobbyist and the corporations.

Sad note is the ornament has it right only no one in Washington does.

It's also a residence, but the Blue Room is used for receptions and such.

Well, the request wasn't for anything the artist wanted, but:
The globes (to be unveiled by the first lady tomorrow) are supposed to showcase something special about each congressional district.

I don't see where impeachment of Bush says anything about Seattle, besides, perhaps, a commonly-held wish.
