Hi MacRumorers,

You can physically plant a tree on your iPhone or iPod touch, but I would not recommend that. What I recommend is our new 'A Real Tree' app that makes planting a real tree as easy as buying your favorite song. We plant a tree every time 'A Real Tree' is purchased in iTunes AppStore. The trees are planted in 12 countries fighting deforestation and poverty. For the price of a song ($0.99 in US) iPhone and iPod touch owners can help fight global warming.

It is pretty simple and straight-forward like the name: A Real Tree.

The app lets you click to see a map of the countries where the trees are planted. We also have a counter that keeps track of all the trees planted. There are a few hidden surprises in there too.

Please check 'A Real Tree' out at http://www.arealtree.com

so it's more like a donation then buying an app. Why would you need an app then to ask for donations?

You wouldn't, but it's a unique approach, and a good idea IMHO.

sounds pretty nifty
your contributing into help preventing global warming by buying this app so they can plant a tree. and with the app you'll see where trees are planted and how you and many other people helped the world.
thats nice. another 'different' way of donating in benefit of the world i like it!

It's as big a scam as buying carbon credits. Yet another example that PT Barnum was right.

Prove it!!! How do I or any other contributor KNOW beyond a reasonable doubt that a tree was planted for the purchase of the app??? Does he receive a picture of the tree being planted? Is there a tag or similar attached to the tree specifying who donated it? How are you validating and guaranteeing that your product is as you say?

There are 4 reviews for this App in the App store. 1 is 4 star and the other 3 are 5 stars, but the average rating is 3 1/2 stars. How is that possible?

It could be that many others have posted reviews, but Apple does not show them right away.

The logic behind the average could include those reviews that are not yet showing.

Just a thought.

Not to mention those that didn't review it, but rated it after deleting...
