Apple Wireless mouse not turning on

I have an apple wireless mouse (bluetooth, of course!) and it doesn't turn on. I got no idea what kind it is. But it isn't the new mighty mouse.

When I push in the little button underneth the mouse's laser, the mouse light blinks, and connects sussesfuly. It works fine. But if I let go of the button, it doesn't stay on. It instantly turns off. Please help! Thanks!

I just bought a used mac mini w/ wireless keyboard and mouse (model A1015, "wireless mouse" on the bottom). I have the same issue - if I take the bottom cover off, there's a little white plastic tab between the batteries and the laser . If I depress that with my finger, the laser lights/flashes, and will pair w/ the mini. But when I let go (e.g. to put the bottom cover on), it turns off and loses connection. New batteries.

I thought maybe the slide switch on the bottom cover was supposed to hold down that little tab inside when slid back to reveal the laser, but it doesn't seem physically possible, unless the switch is broken somehow?

there should be a switch that slides on the bottom of the mouse, it will cover the sensor when turned off, and depresses the switch when turned on.

there is a picture of the bottom of a mouse about halfway down this page on the left.

there should also be a metal strip on the inside of the cover, the switch actually presses this up, which depresses the button you've been pressing with your finger. it is possible that this could be bent.

Ah, your description and the picture you link to matches mine *except* that there is no piece of metal between the switch and back cover. The back cover is just one piece of white plastic with a second smaller sliding switch piece also white.

Not obvious where a metal piece would attach - does someone have a picture of the mouse with cover removed? Maybe I could mock up a new one.

Update: managed to fashion a new metal strip about 1/4" wide by 1.5" long attached longitudinally so the switch 'on' bends it down to push the switch. Working now. Thanks for the hint!
