Hi there,

a couple days ago I wanted to optimize the air flow on my Powermac G4 MDD 1,42.
I have added a SilentX 120mm fan on the back of my G4. With that action I also thought I would be a good idea to check on the dual CPU's and put new thermal compound (Arctic Silver) on, in the hope to gain some degrees on the heat issue.

Unfortunately I got the exact opposite now, instead of having a cooler running system, I lost about 3 degrees - my system is now running on 57C and not on 54 like in the past.:mad::mad:

Now I have read somewhere that the thermal grease is getting better after some weeks ?
Does anybody have experience with it ??? Did anybody replace a G4 or renewed the thermal grees on a G4 ??

I would love to know, because I am not sure what I can do? Maybe I did something wrong, maybe the Arctil Silver compound is crappy or I didn't bolt the CPU back down in the right order.....

Any ideas ????

Is this your first time applying thermal paste? Are you sure you got it right?

Don't forget to clean the heatsink first!

Also, yes, AS5 does have a bit of a "break-in" period, so your temps should drop a bit over the next week or so.
