got one at WWDC and gave it to our IT mac guy. I figured I would get into too much trouble if I had one.

56k isn't a good environment for an iSight. I might as well put that money toward a MiniDV.

Nope. Not for me. Court orders in 37 states, Guam, and American Samoa prohibit me from broadcasting a live image of myself.

I don't see an iSight in my immediate future, though I do plan on leveraging iChat AV's voice features to chat with my long-distance girlfriend.

I have one and love it. A couple of friends of mine have one as well, good fun. And my wife's mom will be getting one soon so she'll be able to 'call' and talk to her mom in Florida.
The best is the international calls - Tiauguinho and I chat every once in a while, I'm in Virginia and he's in Portugal and it works great :D

Someone who had an iSight bought one for me as a gift, to have somebody to videochat with. So I bought one as a gift for somebody else, to have another person to videochat with. It's the expensive way to make friends!
My iSight is lots of fun, especially since I bought EvoCam (http://www.evological.com/evocam.html) to go with it. I can run a "Qcam" on my home network, which is just the thing for family members who are anxious to know what I look like without having to walk to the room I'm in from other rooms in the house.

i've regular chat, email, phones, message boards, etc. why do i need another form of communication? besides, it's the kinda thing that can get you in trouble ;) now there's evidence.

The only circumstances under which I would get one is if I had a job that required me to travel frequently, so that I could use it to keep in touch with my wife and kids. Otherwise, no.

Now that I have moved to Saint Louis, I have thought about buying a pair of them, one for my sister's family and one for ours. I am not big on the idea, but the wife wants to be able to do video chats with her nieces and nephew. I suppose it would be nice to be able to see them more often.

I don't have an iSight currently. I am considering the purchase an iSight. My wife has been encouraging me. It's partly the price and I'm not sure that I's have anyone with which to us an iSight.

While I'm sure it's a great picture for a $150 camera. I have no need for even a $30 camera. So that's at least $120 more than I'm willing to spend. (though I do have a Logitech 310 ($60) that I'm told looks awesome, but it's in a box somewhere)

Never use it for chat (...sigh), but it comes in handy on my laptop for making quick videos for my blog

I'd love to have one but I put "No" because I know its way out of my price range for the luxury that it is. Until my parents at home upgrade to broadband and they get the whole AIM 5.5/iChat AV video thing working properly, I won't bother.
I'm actually surprised the number of people who have one was that high. Mind you, I suppose we are a forum of Mac-heads! :p

I bought one for myself and a friend who lives on the other coast. Video iChatting is absolutely incredible, and thanks to laptops and Airport, he even gave me a "guided tour" of his apartment.
I want to try video chat with a PC/AIM user, now that AIM 5.5 (Win) has iChat video compatibility.

Because iSight and iChat beats most of those things. iChat ( and others like it ) is IMO the best thing the internet have given us since email.
I have videochat with my brother on the other side of the world almostly daily without paying a ton of $ for long distance and iChat never drops audio like most cell phones.

Same for me. Obviously, I would love to have one, but I have more important things to spend my money on.

No for many reasons. 1) No one to chat with 2) It's a tad pricey and 3) I own a DV Camcorder that can act as an iSight.

I'm amazed at how many people here have one. I don't, and I'm only on a 128k connection so it's not worth it for me to get one.

An iSight doesn't seem too "practical" with my iBook 600 so I'm holding off getting one until I have a desktop system.

I don't have one, and don't really see one anytime in the near future. No one I regularly chat with has an iSight so it would be useless for me.
I might consider buying one (actually two) if they were PC compatible (unfortunately my parents use a PC) and if you could get some kind of discount for buying two at a time. Seems like a two-pack would make sense for Apple. Give one, keep one.

No, and not considering one. No use, and wouldn't be too good on my G3 333 or G4 500.

No two-pack, but the iSight is PC-compatible. No driver necessary. Unfortunately, the built-in mic doesn't work without a driver (and there isn't one), so you need a seperate microphone.
I agree with the two-pack idea though. Make it a deal (like $225 - $250 for both, bringing down the individual price) and a lot of people who can afford one would spend a bit more to get a second one for a friend. Or two people could buy a two-pack together to save on the $$$.

I just don't do enough chatting on my computer to warrant buying one - that, and I only have 2 friends who I would chat with who actually have them! ;) Definitely a cool little piece of hardware, but just not something that I'd use right now....

No, I don't own an iSight. Most of my friends that I have chat with online don't have cameras either, so it wouldn't do me much good to own one.

I'd have to agree with that 100%. It's a nice piece of kit, and the recent Firmware seems to have improved the quality, but i just can't see the benefits it will bring to my life.
If I did more work away from home then sure, plugging it in to the hotel joose socket I could speak to my wife at home. But then that would mean having to buy two of the bleedin things. And I can't see the good folk at Apple briefly selling them with a "buy one get one free" tag.

Ah, but what an amazing promotion this would be! Definitely not Apple's style of course - they're far more "stingy" with their promotions - but imagine if they did this. It would be akin to the cell phone deals out there, where subscribers on the same networks can talk to each other for free. This would DEFINITELY boost iSight sales, but alas, this is not Apple's style, so I don't think we will ever see this promotion...

I am looking at buying a iBook and iSight for comunication with my kids. As I work away from home. Can the iSight still work on a dialup? Or is there a lower spec cam I can use?

My wife just purchased an iSight and accessory kit at our local University Computer Store. She is interested in using it with her PowerBook. There are some that she wants to communicate with.

Heck No! $150 resulting in more effort and quality time for my many long-distance friends and family? Not a chance.
Besides, how different can it be than the $30 Logitech webcam that I can buy at Wal-Mart?

I don't have one, but every time I chat with a friend who does (I see them, they just hear me) I start to want one again. I just need another incentive to buy one...lower price? added feature? iSight 2.0? something.

I had one, and had no one to video chat with. So I sold it. Anyways, even now that i have more iChat using friends, I doubt I would get one, text chat works just fine for me.
For those who like to video chat though they really are great.

I appreciate the fact that the iSights are supposedly better than your average webcam, but the cost is still too high for me to warrant buying one. Plus, to use it to its fullest potential, I'd essentially have to buy 2 - 1 for me and 1 for my brother, whom I'd do the bulk of my chatting with!
Until Apple lowers the price or does something else wiht this product, I will not be buying one. I think they're very cool, but just not worth it right now.

I don't know where your brother lives, but my brother lives in Denmark, so I find the price of a pair of iSights super cheap, considering the impact they already have had in our lives. I have video chats with my brother on the other side of the world, how cool is that ? That's worth more than $150 to me.
The iSights are the best thing that have happen (communication wise) since emails.

Fair enough - my brother lives in New York. ;) I could see it being more worthwhile in your case, due to long distance charges, etc. to always be calling Denmark, but for me, just going to the States, it's not quite as cost-effective. I totally appreciate it how it can be worth it for you though in your current situation! The other thing with me is that, due to the exchange rate, iSights cost me about $210, not $150, so it's a little more expensive in general too...

Unfortunately, most camcorders shut off after a few mins of being on. I was using an Elura2 I have and it was awesome until the auto-off kept messing things up. Same happened to my friend with his super duper high end Sony.
