i know that theres a lot of posts on spilled water and all but somehow i managed to contrive to puke on my macbook after a night out. i woke up to find that out, and the lid was up and it was on at the time of the 'event'. obviously it doesnt work and it wont charge. what are the next steps; and does anyone has any rough idea of how much a repair will cost? I really dont know anything about this kind of situation. any help appreciated..

Good luck with that. That's why I put my good stuff away when there's going to be ruckus going on. A cheap old ipod hooked to the stereo and playstation 2 guitar hero will get the bump goin while theres booze flowin almost as good as a dj kit on a macbook pro and your nice new 360. Solo cups and the good china don't mix.
You may want to take it and open it to dry out. There's how-to's on ifixit.com to take apart your gear. Gratuitous amounts of canned air and a light touch with a little alcohol on a lint free cloth can go a long way.
If you don't do anything else, FFS remove the power and battery.

Chances are, by now, you've killed the logic board, clean it up, take it to an apple store, and prepare for a big hit.

In this case apple techs will quote you a topcase and they will check if the logic board is damaged or and that piece costs 700 up to 1,200 itself so be prepared for a ugly quote, also they maybe more additional parts but unless those are replaced apple techs won't be able to completly repair the machine so i recomend buying a new one

Repair charges will vary depending on what you ate and drank. Chicken pot pie causes more damage than mac 'n cheese, due to the stringy nature of chicken. Also, peas and carrots can jam the keyboard. Macaroni is more forgiving. And beer is easier to remove from the motherboard than wine. If you had a vodka tonic, a rum and Coke, or any whiskey/Scotch, you could be looking at a new DVD drive, as these drinks seek out lasers.

Results will vary... it may only require a keyboard replacement :o
Depends on the extent of the damage
Good luck... but take it to Apple... sooner rather than later

I recently wondered whether anybody had actually lived through a scenario like the OP's, during my 24 hour bout with gastro-intestinal distress. I stayed away from my MBP during periods of potential regurgitation.
rdowns: I don't know how I missed that tale the first time you posted--thanks for reposting a story so unfathomably horrible that my own personal tales of woe seems almost publicly discussable in comparison. But not quite.

I re-post it when puking comes up in threads from time to time. The story cracks me up to the point of tears every time I read it.

Eww, some things, even on MR are just TMI. The way you guys treat your computers sometimes, I actually feel bad for the computer. Spilling milk, getting sick over the computer, spilling cigarette ashes, getting food underneath the keys. For now on (and I recommend this to EVERYONE) beware buying a used computer off Ebay, you don't know what it's been through.

Depends on the result. If fixing it is fairly high I'd recommend on getting a new macbook....Like what others said it might damage your logic board...You'll probably be hitting big time...

Bad Velvet! I don't want to see puke on any MacBook, makes me nervous about mine. Besides I think OP already cleaned it up.

Is it just me or do the posts on this forum lead you guys to conclude that mac products are somehow more likely to be spilled/puked on?
Is it a curse?
Seriously, ive seen dozens of spilled liquid threads, but this is probably the 3rd or 4th puked on thread ive seen since I joined lol.

It appears that you have greater problems than a broken macbook. You should have a look at the following website!

They won't work on it.
I worked in IT at my college and a student puked on his computer but cleaned it up to the point that we couldn't tell, so we sent it in for repair and they sent it back to use with photos of stuff on the inside and said they refused to work on it because it was a biohazard.

If I were you, I'd take the MacBook apart to clean it as properly as possible. Leaving no puke behind there. Then I'd take the machine to an Applestore, and simply say it stopped working. Without mentioning any puke at all.

wow that's an expensive night out.
make a short movie called "dude i puked on my macbook"
(you can actually put the macbook to use by puking on it again in the film)
submit it to a couple festivals, make some money from dvd sales,
buy new macbook, and - for the sake of the new machine - become muslim
