View Full Version : 30,000 Members here?

I suddenly noticed that the number of members right now is 29,709. So we were pretty close to hitting the 30,000 mark. I am guessing around 50 new members join up daily, so we should be seeing that exact number turning over next week?

I remember a news piece ages ago about a guy going for a public Turkish Steam Bath (dunno where) was suddenly caught by a bunch of serious looking people and dragged into a special room, where he was pleasantly surprised with some gifts and all, because he was the 10 millionth visitor there or something.

Would be interesting to do something like that here ;)

30,000th visitor gets dragged to the back by the DGVPG, then is awarded a free iPod mini with color preference. (Go for pink!! LOL)

It's almost celebrating time!

(Note: The graph isn't completely accurate.)

This very thought has been running through my mind. Having 30,000 members will be quit a milestone. Maybe arn is waiting for that milestone before he makes the change over to a new looking forum.

edesignuk, again congratulations on a creative emotion display. ;)

Not to take this thread a little off-topic, but isn't vB 3.0 out? Wouldn't it be kinda cool to have vB 3.0 when our forum population hits 30,000? Or maybe not...

While we're on the subject, I think the member list needs to be cleaned out. There are hundreds, if not thousands of people who have never posted....not once.

It's funny, I still almost feel like a newbie, even though I'm a 'tared Demi :). In the 10 months or so I've been here, I've definately noticed a huge increase in the amount of active members. It just feels so much bigger here. What I like is that the site has expanded to fit the members--MacBytes, DailyTunes, ect.

Spymac's quality "died" when several anti-SpyMac zealots pissed all over their site, emphasizing a few false rumors and a couple of immature threads from SpyMac.com.

Then we had the anti-Slashdot zealots posting about the little s*** going on over at Slashdot. At least the anti-Slashdot zealots were a little more refined than the former anti-SpyMac zealots.

That's the acutal # of posts in the data base. The real number can be found when you view the latest post on the forum...in this case for my post its 719,835 and the current forum # is 713,095 for a difference of 6740 - those are all the deleted posts :D

Since scottrish is member number 30,094, I assume that MacRumors reached 30,000 members when member number 30,083 joined.

That would be atari1356 (http://forums.macrumors.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=30083)! He/she has provided no profile information and has yet to post.

However, I still think Mightee (http://forums.macrumors.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=30000) deserves the honors. Do we need a poll about this?

imo : if this 'real' number cannot seen by everybody, then we shd consider only the one which is.

of course, we can only see the number while they register, so its pretty moot anyway....

Doctor Q

I have no inside information. The numbers I've used are based on the profiles you can see for any member, using a URL of the form

http://forums.macrumors.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=nnnnn

Hover over the Profile button under any post and you should see the member number at the end of the URL in your web browser's status bar.

My assumptions have been that:

* The "Members: nnnnn" display shows the number of non-banned members, since otherwise I don't know why it would differ from the highest user number.

* Banned members retain their identity, member number, profile, and posts. They just can't login, post, change their profiles, or subscribe to threads anymore. Their member number would certainly not be reused.

* All of this is just for fun anyway and only matters because we were born with 10 fingers. If we had 9 fingers, we'd be watching for member 19,683 (which is 30,000 in base 9)!

Front page, it says we have 30,020 registered members. So go to:

http://forums.macrumors.com/memberlist.php?s=&what=datejoined

Top person should be number 30,020 and count down the list from there.

How did you guys get your number?

EDIT: I think I see how you got it. Now, it says 30,020 registered members and the latest person is user id 30,103, so that would put it at Atari 1356, but I'm not sure which way is best suited. To be honest, you'd have to query the database and get the exact time they registered. I am not sure the member list sorted by date joined sorts by time.

EDIT AGAIN: I think the registered members number on the front page is people who have acutally posted something. You guys go member id 30,083 which is Atari 1356, and I got member id 30,079 (Gee), which is 4 id's lower. Coincidentally, there are 4 members with no posts agove Gee. So, it depends on what are we calling a member, someone who signed up or someone who signed up and posted.

I think the discrepancy in numbers is due to banned member accounts.

Oh! I see how you came up with that! But some of those people have never posted. Is it possible that the others correspond to invalid e-mail accounts? Or the Spamhaus problem? In any case, your method makes a lot of sense. It seems likely that Gee is actually the 30,000th member.

I hereby declare, without authority to do so, that atari1356, by posting here, is the official 30,000th MacRumors member and is due all rights, privileges, and responsibilities that go with the title.
Hmm, 30,000th member... that sounds prestigious. Do I win a free Dual 2GHz Powermac? ;)Sure! Just go to any Apple store and tell them you came to pick up a free Power Mac! ;)

So I was number 30,000 but I didn't check the message until two years later. Well, at least I'm now officially an idiot and not running around not knowing for sure.

So I was number 30,000 but I didn't check the message until two years later. Well, at least I'm now officially an idiot and not running around not knowing for sure. That's pretty funny, Mightee. And so is our making a big deal out of the 30,000th forum member in the first place, especially since we are now nearing member number 80,000. At the moment, we are up to 79,811 (named menace3054).

I sure hope the moderators don't find out that you called one of our most celebrated members an idiot. They might pull out the brass knuckles because you insulted our Mightee hero so rudely!
