Because Apple doesn't deem it to be necessary.

Otherwise we'd have it.

Thread over.

AFAIK, Apple hasn't allowed developer's access across apps...

y cant it be done? everything else can be done to a jailbroken phone?

because no one has made it yet.

Its more complex than it sounds because youd have to implement something that works outside of apps meaning it would have to be built into the OS.

the same reason why you can't replace the battery in an iphone or ipod(at least easily)

What I don't understand is why someone can't make a SBsettings app similar to the Fast Notes or whatever its called. Something where you slide, pulls up the menu, you hit copy text.. it takes all the text on the page, puts it into a magicpad like app, and lets you select what you want.. then you close the menu, go where you want to paste it, and pull the menu up in the same way, paste it, and be done.

I love how SB Settings runs overtop everything else.. that is exactly how i think a lot of apps should run.. imagine being able to pull up 'Text' overtop of another app in order to quickly reply to someone, and get back to what you were doing. obviously the feasibility of some of these types of applications are beyond the capability of the device (ie. two apps running at the same time) but still the ability of SB settings to pull it up anywhere is incredibly useful.

I love that idea!!!!! That seems so plausible, but since I am not a developer I can't speak from knowledge. OK who is going to do it?

again, its got to be built so it can be implemented into every application, meaning it most likely has to be put into the OS. The idea above sounds great from the UI standpoint, but from the actually make it work, its not going to be simple.

All that the idea requires is the ability for the SBsettings app to 'capture' the visible text, as text, and then it can store it in it's own file. i don't know if theres such a function... sounds plausible though

Exactly. There isn't even a way to select text to copy! :D Think of that one yet? Haha. So how would that even work? Right now holding your finger down implements zoom so you can move your cursor. Maybe two fingers down or something, but still. It would not be able to run as an app because it needs to be functional IN all other apps.

Doesn't seem likely that anyone is going to reverse the iPhone OS anytime soon. Better chance of getting Android ported or a iPhone linux distro. :p

this is silly, i can't think of many way i'd use copy and paste anyway
