Are they all? Someone posted in another forum that he thought his panel was a Samsung S-PVA panel.

Having not yet seen one in person, I have no way to know...

This is amazing news! With this monitor being H-IPS (with one of the newest LG H-IPS panels) and being LED backlit, this monitor is a steal.

One last question, does it have a built in fan?

Yes, it does it have a built-in fan (I think), but it's a high quality and low RPM fan that you cannot hear even in a quiet environment...you will only notice that there is a fan when you place you hand under the Apple symbol and you feel a little burst of air.

Big education discount on this in Australia. $250 off from the $1500. That's like 17% off.

Makes it a far more realistic buy for me already :D

Great. I don't do any color sensitive work which would require a high-end panel but at least I won't feel so ripped off.

Now if they would only show up for sale. I don't like ordering something and then having to wait 2-4 weeks to get it.

jjahshik32
Dec 9, 2008, 12:32 PM
I think I'm going to wait it another 1-2 more weeks when the apple store has plenty, so that if I do get a defective display (dead/stuck pixels and such) I can just take it right back for a quick swap, instead of trying to score another one.

Argh, I want one so badly. But good deal or not, $800 (edu discount) is $800. Months of groceries! Hundreds of gallons of gasoline! Many shares of underpriced stocks!

But I think its a fair trade for years of led backlit H-IPS eye candy goodness. You can always earn more money but there is only one 24" LED ACD out there for you! :D

November 28, 2008. They said it would be up to 10 business days when I ordered it (and it hasn't been that long yet). I'm just excited to get it. :)

One last question, does it have a built in fan?

Didn't bother checking. I was too skeer'd that I would accidentally rip a cable or something.

As with stock, I did a swap immediately when I got my first one. They had plenty in stock and it as a small mall store.

I believe he took his 24" led cinema display apart and that sticker is in the back panel inside the display.

It also says the model (LM240WU6). If you look into the specifications of the model, it is one of LG's newest H-IPS panels.

I see. Now hopefully they're using the same in all the displays. There's the infamous Dell 20 inch screen that comes sometimes with IPS, sometimes with VPN, for $350.

I don't think Apple has ever used different display panels in the same Cinema Display model. For their Cinema Displays, Apple has always used some form of IPS.

So what if its h-ips?

The other thread review said that the color was too good and wasn't representative of what an actual print out would be like, even after careful color calibration.

Which means this monitor is not meant for professionals anyway. So why put in an IPS panel if its just meant for the masses who just want to view photos and watch movies on their screen

First, people who say things like this are usually calibrating wrong.

Second, not all professionals are in the print business, and those who aren't in print won't want their monitors' capabilities artificially limited by the low capabilities of print media.

My GOD its in plain sight on his picture where it has the LM240WU6. You've been trying to figure this out for the past week!! The panel itself doesnt say H-IPS!! It has the panel model #, LM240WU6 and just google the LM240WU6 or check the link that alphaod has put to show that LM240WU6 is an H-IPS panel made by LG!

Forgive my being unobservant, but where in that link does it say it's H-IPS? The funny thing is, I seem to remember seeing it at that link before, but now I can't find any mention of it.

Agree, that link originally posted by alphaod has no mention of H-IPS. Why would it have been edited?

Google must be producing different results for you then. For me it shows up the original link that alphaod posted (http://lcd.eechain.com/datasheet_detail.asp?bg_key=E1&sk_nub=LM240WU6-SDA1) and all the rest are links to this and other forums that refer to alphaod's actual post. Its not a case of not believing, very pleased that someone unlocked the mystery. I just haven't seen any hard proof for myself yet. Could you possibly provide a link?

It's not mentioned directly, but the LM240WU3 is used on the 24" iMac and that is verified, so the correct assumption is the later revision would only get better not worse.

Also if the panel wasn't IPS, LG labels the label with the moniker (eg the TN version of the same model would be LM240WU1(TN))

Ignoring all the other confusions, assumptions and 'spec sheet reviewing' - since when did later revisions always mean improvements in the tech world?

Google produces different results whether you are logged in or not. Funnily, this was actually being discussed on one of the recent TWiT podcasts (http://twit.tv/twit).
