I am a boarding student at a prep school and our dorm has created a network folder. Most of the students in the dorm use Windows, however some, including myself, use Macs. I was wondering if I could use File Sharing (from the Conrol Panels) to connect to this network folder. I am running OS 9.2.1 and OS 10.1 on one disk. What can I do so that I can join in on the network folder?

I think you can just use the control panel... but im not sure.. I think thats how we do it at my old job.. we have Mac's and PC's. But you may want to look into a app called "Dave". I think it may be what your looking for... I could be wrong.

Hi MacUser,

You can connect directly to most windows machines using Mac OS X.1. However, you may experience difficulty in situations where the machine is not networked with a Windows server.

With OS 9, you must rely on the person running the Windows server to install and turn on Mac file sharing. This works with Windows NT Server and Windows 2000 Server.

Or, alternatively, you can use a 3rd party software like "Dave" (for OS 9 and OS X) or "Sharity" for OS X.

If you're primarily running OS X.1, then you should be able to connect natively without buying any software. Search on google for instructions.

Good luck.

Thanks, I thought I heard about something in OS X.1 with file sharing with Windows. Sounds good.
