We all have people we admire that may not be household names.
Who are yours?
I put in 4 many here may not know. I chose an unknown/little known indie musician, PJ Harvey. Scientist Lisa Randall, a physicist at Harvard. Jonathan Ive, industrial designer of the iMac and many other products, and finally, many a relative while growing up. :)

Not a total house hold name, but in the electronics industry he is know as Dave Smith a.k.a the visionary behind MIDI, patch memory storage, synthesizer design based off of ICs, Vector synthesis and much more.
If you enjoy those horrid cheesy ring tones you have his technology to thank.
The best part of MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is debuted to the public in 1983 it still is at version 1.0. It is used in everything from music to phones, voice recognition and a bunch of other applications. That is great design right there.
