This is so funny, I thought I would share

I've reached my 1st year anniversary since I bought my ipod and then I saw one of my songs has reached the 100 play count right at the same time...haha

I love my ipod ;)

Congrats, but...

Wow, only 100? Do you have any songs higher than that? And wouldn't 365 be a more appropriate number? ;)

who wants to listen to the same song every single day for a year? i think you'd be sick of it long before then.

out of curiosity, what song was it?

lol yup I think I would be sick and tired of hearing the same song everyday. I thought 100 was kind of a magic number.

...I was afraid someone would ask what song was it...

it was "Touch my Body - Mariah Carey"

Don't Judge me! :p

Riiiiight...... :p

I've had my iTunes library since 2004 but oddly enough, I've yet to reach my 100th play count in any song. I do listen to a lot of music, and that's probably the reason - because I spread out my listening to a bunch of different songs.

For example, my most played song was played 78 times, followed by the next most played songs at 71, 70, 70, 67, and 67. Past that, the play counts gradually go down by every number usually more than once. Once you get to 60, a lot of songs are tied for the same number of plays: There are 7 tied at 60, 10 tied at 55, and 8 tied at 54.

Oh, and my most played song is "Over the Hills and Far Away" by Led Zeppelin.

I don't know what I'd do without my iPod!

I don't have a single song in the triple digits in terms of playcount either.

What did you go to to see that type of list with the number of days spent listening to music...

You'd be sick of a song if you heard it once a day, every day? Pshh. I put some of my songs on loop just because they rock so much. I never get tired of any of them.

I have one with over a thousand plays and a few others over three hundred.

Barenaked Ladies.
Nice choice :)

I lost my stats with a hard drive failure about 18 months ago but currently my top three that are over 100 (in order) are;

Leyendecker by Battles
Meds by Placebo
I'm destructive by Dr Octagon.

It's funny - I wouldn't have chosen any of those three songs as my favorite songs nor do I think I listen to them as much as I do in reality :).

100 play count huh? After 1.5 years of using one of my iPods, my most played song is barely at 30. The reason is that I have almost 11,000 songs and I rarely listen to the same things over and over. The song I have with 30 plays was a new song that I bought and I literally played it over and over again for a few weeks. Now I rarely play it.

100 is not much.

I've got some songs at over 2000 plays.

The chances of getting to the 100th count on any song depends on the number of songs you have and how often you listen to your ipod and for how long. That should give you a good idea of the chances.

If you have 12,000 songs (averaging 3 minutes apiece) and listen to your ipod once a week for an hour, your chances of reaching 100 means you'll have to listen to the same song twice a week => 1/6.9444438889 e-9

Actually, it doesn't matter how many songs you have, how long they last, nor how much you listen to your ipod. If you want a song to reach 100 plays in a year, you'll have to listen to it about twice per week, because then, you'll get 104 plays by the end of the year, since it has 52 weeks.
:)

P.S. And I know the important part of your post was what I didn't quote (the actual chance of it happening), however, I found it funny that you seem to imply that for reaching 100 plays on a song, you had to made complex calculations, like in the joke. :D

I only started syncing my iPod automatically since I got my nano so my playcounts don't really match up to what they've been played at. So in 3 weeks my top song is 11 plays. Death Cab for Cutie - Title and Registration lol. Congrats though!

My iTunes library goes back to 2005, so I have 26 or 27 songs over 100 plays (I can't check, my Macbook is getting repaired at the Apple Store). The funny thing is that a lot of songs on my top 100 most played aren't listened to anymore.

My highest is also Bare Naked Ladies but only 988 plays so far.

What I did notice doing this is a huge number of songs show a zero play count. But i've listened to most of them several times

This happens if you change a song before it ends, usually.
