Wondering if any harm will come to it if I do this. I know leaving a macbook on 24/7 is fine but, the question is if it's at 100% cpu usage for that long, how will that affect the computer?

I currently have it in a fairly cooled room, and it's propped up slightly to allow the heat to spread out better. Also would a usb laptop cooler help?

I can't afford to get a mac pro at the moment and this is all I have to go with for now.

Thanks,

What the heck are you doing that 100% of the CPU is in use??

WOW and your at 100% usage?
I suppose prolonged periods of a big load could eventually damage something.. Im not really sure tho..

I would get a laptop cooler make sure it's elevated.

Also try not to run it in clamshell mode.

yes, the lid is open with screen brightness off. I'll probably invest in a laptop cooler if longevity is an issue.

I personally have this:

Not the cheapest, but it works surprisingly well. Plus Zalman quality is really good.

I did HandBrake for about a week straight just keeping my MacBook open and on my desk.

yes, i'll be doing pretty much the same thing. handbrake, visualhub, etc. lots of high def, some standard video.

How is your MB now? I assume still in good working condition? I know macs are complete workhorses

running it at 24/7 @ 100% cpu won't break it anytime soon. It just pretty much means that the system won't last 10 years, it'll probably last like 3 years.

Seems about the right time to upgrade. =P
