So I have many avi, divx, mpeg, and mkv movie files that I would like to play on a screen larger than my macbook screen. Is there a external hard drive media center that I can load my files and then connect to my TV using the standard yellow, red, and white cords. Not looking for a high definition option because I just have a regular TV. Thanks.

Apple TV only works with HDTVs: http://www.apple.com/appletv/specs.html

You could get a converter, like this one for the old Macbook, that will output video to your standard yellow composite. For audio, you can get a converter from Radioshack that goes from your headphone port (3.5mm) and splits to the stereo red and white plugs.

This is how I do it. That way your computer becomes your "external hard drive media center" and you won't have to worry about doing any video format conversions in order to play them on another device.
