I bought this drive during black friday and its great. But when I close the lid of my macbook it takes a few seconds for the hard drive to shut off. Could it be a bad drive? On the stock hard drive it would shut off right away when the lid is closed.

What is it doing to indicate it is not shutting down right away?

Weird noise? Blinking power light?

More info needed.

If it is a bad drive, just return it right away.

They all do that.. It takes a few seconds to SLEEP after your shut the lid, because everything is being put in the RAM to be available at Wake up.
So I would say it's normal for it to take a few seconds... I think any HDD will do that.

when the lid is closed and the backlight on the apple logo goes off the sleep light is on. after a few seconds the hard drive turns off and the sleep light starts pulsing.
