Any idea why Libya is suddenly flavour of the month? Could it be anything to do with cornering yet more of the remaining stocks of that sticky black stuff? Look out Venezuela! They've tried it once, and they'll try it again. And when you own all the oil, will you or we be any safer? I think not. :(

yes, i believe the lifting of libyan sanctions is driven by economics, for both sides. U.S. (and other) oil companies have been itching to do business w/ libya for a long time now.

The reason Libya is on the administration's "happy" list is because they caved to US pressure by dismantling their nuclear program. Now Bush gets to come back and say "Look! I was right, all we had to do was stomp one middle eastern country, and the rest will fall into line." Libya is Dubya's only foreign policy "success".
