iPod DVD won't play correctly in Frontrow or VLC

It's a movie filmed in 2.35:1. In Frontrow and VLC it has thick black bars on the sides as well as the top. It used to play with only the bars on the top which is normal. I can't seem to find a way to fix this. Any ideas?

open vlc media player, go to video, scroll down, select aspec-ratio, then click on the format you want to view the movie.
 
Thanks, that works. I just want to find out how I can do this for Frontrow. I don't use VLC all that much.
