Hey, this is my first post. I recently bought a 20 inch iMac (Nov. 28) as a family computer. The family loves it, however, my wife wants me to exchange it for the least expensive 24 inch one. Is it too late to exchange the 20 inch one? And is there a difference between the two iMacs?

How recently? You can return within 14 days. You must pay a 10% restocking fee and then the difference up to the 24" model.

I really doubt that you will be able to exchange it. There usually is a 14 day exchange period, but if you've already opened it, you would still have to pay a restocking fee. It looks like you've had yours for more than 14 days.
Also, there is a difference in the processor between the high-end 20 inch and the low-end 24 inch.

I guess the original box has been opened, as the OP family has been loving the iMac...
I would take it to the nearest Apple Store and see if they might be willing to echange the 20" for a 24' inch for a small restocking fee.

Called the store, and they told me if I have all the original packaging I can bring it back. I will be charged a restocking fee of 10% of the computer price 😱 That's $150, plus the $300 difference to get the 24 inch iMac.

It depends on how much you want the extra 4" of screen and little bit faster processor.

Depends on what your going to do with it, use it for ? Also are you the type that buys a new system every year? IMHO, 24" top of the line and order 2 gig sticks from OWC or some other 3rd party vender and go have fun with your new computer. If you dont buy a new one every year, than take yours and goto the store and play with the 24" and take it from there.
This is the family computer. There won't be any heavy programs on this. Just the basic pictures, music, videos, etc. Wife just fell in love with the 24 inch one after we bought this one. It would have been nice if she said that in the store.🙄

Give them a counter offer....tell them you'll give them $375 (75 restocking) for the new computer, see what they say🙂
OR, ask them if they have an open box 24 that you can trade in your 20 against to avoid restocking fee🙂 Maybe someone got the 24 and wants a 20!
It's up to you on what it's worth. $150 doesn't seem to out of line to me, they are going to lose a bit with the open box (I see them at Best Buy for about 10% off when open box)...I would bit the bullet, ESPECIALLY if my wife was the driving force. I have never in my life been able to get my wife to wish the monitors/Tv's/Speakers were bigger🙂.....too many jokes, must stop here

i was in the same situation a week ago. I first bought a bottom of the rack 2.4ghz 20in, but I changed my mind, so i rang apple and i said "I want to upgrade me computer because it cant handle the programs I use such as archicad and photoshop cs4." and the nice lady offered me to change it to a 24in for $20au + the price difference.
the next day, TNT guy came an took my old computer and brought a spanking 24in new one.

If all they want is a bigger screen, buy a 24" monitor and hook it up to your iMac. $450 will buy a really nice monitor that has lots of input options for TV, video games, HDTV, etc.
