Officials from Japan's fair trade watchdog have raided Microsoft's Tokyo offices on suspicion that the US giant violated Japanese anti-monopoly laws.

A Microsoft spokeswoman confirmed that the Fair Trade Commission had inspected the company's Japan headquarters, but denied any wrongdoing.

The commission said it believed the US giant had attached unfair conditions when signing software deals.

It said Microsoft sought restrictive contracts with Japanese computer firms.

they'll only get a slap on the wrist like the U.S. gave them and the E.U. is about to hand them next month...

nothing will change, and MS will continue to peddle it's unsecure, un-original, retro-innovative software...

it makes you wonder how they'll ever be bought into line...

M$ has too much money, i dont think they care what they get charged with cause they can just pay it off. . . someone needs to step in and charge the people responsible for the decisions. . . im sure that would help get M$ a little more honest and abiding by the proper laws

US giant violated Japanese anti-monopoly laws

What Microsoft? that can't be :p

M$ does have too much money to throw around, i think they need a different kind of punishment and something that makes them think twice before doing a stupid stunt

Actually don't bother, they seem to be doing ok by themselves and i need a laugh once in a while :D

Had this been 30 years ago, I would think that they would have been severely handicapped but there is so much corruption in the government that anything could happen.

Thinking back to the really old days, the penalty would have been quite severe. I wouldn't mind though--I'm tired of looking at Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer. :D
