When you MBA reaches 0% charge - it auto sleeps the machine in hopes that you will soon charge it.

Anyone know how long you have to actually get it plugged in?

It doesn't really matter. If it finally does shut completely off after hibernating, it will still restore from that the next time you turn it on.

It definitely doesn't matter whether you plug it in or not. I have left mine running with hibernation disabled (using insominiaX) and running beyond the battery life. Once you plug it back in it will restart the computer. At first your date and time will be reset to the default time but as soon as the system connects to the internet it will reset the time and date (assuming you have it set to check automatically).
